The Sundarbans is a marvel of nature. It is a vast forest located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal.

This forest covers the Khulna, Satkhira, and Bagerhat districts of Bangladesh and two districts of the Indian state of West Bengal, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas.

The 10,000 sq km of the Sundarbans covers 6,017 sq km in Bangladesh and the rest in India. And for those who love nature, this Sundarbans can be the most ideal place to visit.

Apart from the Royal Bengal Tiger, there are many species of birds, deer, crocodiles and snakes waiting for you. Thousands of tourists visit the Sundarbans every year.

Sundarbans | How to go

If you want you can go to Sundarban by road and river. By road- Khulna can be reached by bus to Sundarban. By the river – Khulna launch ghat can be reached by launch. There are launches at night and in the morning.

If you want to go to Sundarbans from Dhaka, you have to go directly to Khulna by bus. Khulna can also be reached by train and plane.

You can get on the Khulna train from Dhaka’s Kamalapur to Khulna city. If you want to go by plane, you have to get off at Jessore.

Khulna can be reached by renting a bus or car from Jessore. There are many residential hotels in Khulna city.

You have to stay there at night and go to Sundarbans the next morning. For this, you have to go to Mongla first.

From Khulna you can go to Mongla by private car or bus. The distance is 50 kilometers. From Mongla Ghat you have to go to Sundarbans by trawler or launch.

It takes two hours to go from Mongla Ghat to Karamjal in the Sundarbans. In the morning you can go from Khulna to Mongla and then return to Khulna in the evening.

Besides, the Sundarbans launch leaves directly from Khulna Steamer Ghat in the morning. These are from different travel agencies. Tickets must be cut from them first.

Sundarbans | What to see

The entire Sundarbans is surrounded by forests and jungles. There are 334 species of plants and 375 species of wildlife.

Among them are 35 species of reptiles, 315 species of birds, 42 species of mammals and the world famous Royal Bengal Tiger.

Major reptile species include saltwater crocodiles, pythons, cobras, guisaps, sea snakes, chameleons, turtles and others. About 30 species of snakes are found in the Sundarbans.

The journey to the Sundarbans will start from the river Pashur. There are ample arrangements for seating on the roof of the boat, with the boat heading west.

After 40 minutes the boat will come straight and stop at Karamjal Ghat. Karamjal is basically a deer and crocodile breeding center. You have to buy a ticket to enter the forest as soon as you get down to Karamjal, 23 rupees per person.

How much does it cost?

If you go to the Sundarbans, you basically have to go under the packages of different tour companies. So you can be sure in advance how much it will cost you.

This is because the package includes launch fare, fuel, food, snacks, official side of everyone, revenue, guide, gunman, small boat trip to the forest from the time of boarding the ship from Mongla to the time of return after three days tour.

  • Depending on the quality of the food and the ship, a medium-sized tour usually costs around Rs 6,000-8,000.
  • If you want to go a little better, there is a package of up to Rs 19,000 per person.
  • And to reduce the cost, students can travel to the Sundarbans in groups of 35 to 40 people on a launch flooring for three days at a cost of Rs 4,000-5,000.
